Dear Parents,

The final week before Rosh Hashana was a busy one for the Yellow Room.

The Kindergarten finished the Rosh Hashana cards for their grandparents and stamped the envelopes themselves – that was fun!

The Kindergarten Friends will be bringing home a bag with goodies for Rosh Hashana: thoughts they wrote and illustrated reflecting their thoughts on Rosh Hashana in a Machzor, an original napkin ring to grace the Yom Tov table and a Tashlich fish to take with them when they go to Tashlich on the first day Rosh Hashana.

The Machzor cover was fun to make by creating a rubbing of honey combs after which they drew bees onto the honey combs.

The Tashlich fish are especially colorful due to the crayon shavings the children created. After they sharpened the crayons, they then arranged the shavings to make a brilliant Tashlich fish.

The children enjoyed marching in the classroom to a song that encapsulates a message of Rosh Hashana:

Ronan: to hear the shofar.

Naveed: I’m going to give it a try to dip the apple in the honey and the pomegranate.

Mae: to eat honey by itself.

The Kindergarten has been practicing the Rosh Hashana songs with Mr. Guitar. The songs are printed in their Machzor to share with their families.

Parsha

The children will be bringing home their Parsha books for the first time this week. Feel free to ask your child the questions on the Parsha sheet. The Kindergarten knows that the Parsha sheets need to stay in the binder as we add another sheet every week. The binders will go home every week on a Friday and are to be returned to school every Monday.

Happy Birthday, Ronan!

The Yellow Room was so excited to be celebrating the first birthday party of the school year. At the party Ronan gave a bracha to each and every student since he had special birthday power to do so. May his parents and family have much continued nachas from this wonderful boy!

Shofar in the Park

Bring your child for Shofar in the Park on Tuesday, September 7 at 5:30 pm in the Desert Breeze Park by the Picnic Area Gazebo. There will be treats for the children and all can hear the shofar. No charge.

Dear Parents,

 

The Kindergarteners learned about the bee and how it makes honey for us for the Rosh Hashana table. They know that the bee itself is not kosher but the honey is. The honey doesn’t come from the bee’s body itself. The bee simply takes the pollen and brings it to the beehive to make honey. The Kindergarten Honey Tasters tasted honey that came from different flowers: Wildflower, Multiflower, Clover, and Raw honey. After tasting the different honeys the Kindergarteners conducted a survey to see which they liked best:

The Yellow Room finished their Shana Tova cards with personal wishes for their grandparents, sounding out the words as they wrote.

 

Creating a Rosh Hashana napkin ring required many steps but the end product is sure to beautify their Rosh Hashana table. They painted and drew and glued and threaded and voila! – a most original napkin holder!

 

The Kindergarten is creating their own machzor (special ‘Siddur’ for Rosh Hashana) which highlights the main points of Rosh Hashana: the sounds of the Shofar, crowning Hashem our King, and a personal new year resolution.

First Week in the Yellow Room

 

 

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a fantastic fun year of learning in the Yellow Room! In the very first week the Yellow Room Friends have already dived right in to learning reviewing the Alef Beis letters and reinforcing the letters they may have forgotten or not learned yet. They have explored the Alef Beis letters for the word Shofar utilizing kinetic moon sand to shape the letters. The Yellow Room Whizzes will bring home the paper they used to write the letters used to spell Shofar. They have been exploring sounds and, after listening to several sounds decided that the Shofar sound does not sound like a guitar. The Shofar sound does not sound like a piano. The Shofar sound sounds like crying, sometimes like a baby crying. Thank you, Rabbi Deitsch, for coming in to the Yellow Room to blow the Shofar for the Yellow Room Friends. The Kindergarten is already familiar with the shofar sounds. Ask your child what sound the Tekiya, Shevarim and Teruah sounds are of the Shofar. This diagram can help:

The Yellow Room Friends shared their summer experiences:

 

Angie: I went to my Mexico house. I went swimming in the pool and the ocean.

 

Natan: I liked going to my Grandma’s because she has my dog’s sister. I went to Chuckie Cheese with Leanna and Mia.

 

Leah: I went to Mexico and went inside the ocean. When you open your eyes in the water, they burn. And when you lick the water, it’s salty. There’s fishies. I wanted there to be dolphins but they weren’t there. I liked the beautiful house there and slept there for five days.

 

Leanna: I went to New Mexico on summer. We were sleeping and we heard sirens and there was a tornado. We had to go in the basement. The next morning we saw a rainbow. We went to the ocean and I dived down and saw a shark. It was my first time being down there.

 

Mae: I liked going to the playgrounds. I liked the swings. We went in the pool in the backyard. We had play toy fishes in the pool Mommy and Abba got them. They swam underwater.

 

Jacob: I went to the train park. Brewster got scared of the bug and it came to the train park.

 

Ronan: I got to meet my friends at the park. Out of my neighborhood, the park has swings and I played army guys with my friends.

 

Naveed: I went to my pool a bunch, a bunch, a bunch of times, like 1000 times. My favorite part of summer was also summer camp in school. In my sister’s school.

 

 

Show and Tell
Your child is welcome to bring one item from home for Show and Tell on his/her day. Show and Tell is an opportunity for your child to better develop confidence and poise in public speaking.

Mitzva Notes

Every day the children enjoy sharing a Mitzva they have done and fill their Mitzva buckets with the notes. Please send a Mitzva note every day with your child. I have enclosed a plastic packet with lots of papers to start you off in your child’s backpack, most probably in the small outside pocket.  If you need a refill, please let me know.

Understanding More and More!

Anyone would agree with me that 1 year olds are so much fun! If we are in-tune with them, we’re able to understand their wants. Although at this age they’re obviously unable to talk, they are good communicators. From pointing their finger to cute facial expressions. They are communicating with us. Interacting with them is very crucial in their language development .

We are working on giving commands. For now, it may seem meaningless chatter but they’re registering it all. We use commands like: “give me the ball please” while extending out my hand. Along with many others. The key to language acquisition is repetition! Using clear, descriptive language over and over.

This week, we brought cars into the classroom with sounds and sirens. We played a game of rolling the car back and forth. Although they’re not fully able to roll the car back to me, they made an attempt. This teaches them cause-and-effect.

For our sensory activity this week, we mashed a banana in a bag. We added the colors blue and red . We talked about how “mushy and soft” it felt. We discovered other things that are red and blue in the room. 

Have you ever danced while reading? Give it a try, it’s fun! As we read “The Wheels on the Bus” we played the tambourine. We shook our body to the tune of the song!
