Dear Parents,
The Yellow Room is so excited in this month of Tishrei because it is filled with Jewish Holidays. After the Yellow Room experienced Rosh Hashana it was straight on to Yom Kippur. The children loved hearing the story of Yona and the big fish; at first, Yona didn’t listen to Hashem but later did Teshuva (changed to choose a good choice) and listened to Hashem. The Yellow Room created an underwater flashlight craft depicting Yona in the big fish, doing Teshuva, while in the deep sea. The Yellow Room Friends thought about how they can sometimes make a mistake but can always do Teshuva, just like Yona. The Yellow Room Illustrators also illustrated a book of their own with the story of Yona. The Kindergarten Friends learned about the things we don’t do on Yom Kippur, the holiest, most special day of the year:

No smearing creams,
No wearing leather on our feet.

One of the books the Kindergarten Friends enjoyed was Oops! I’m Sorry by Sara Blau.
No sooner did Yom Kippur pass then the Yellow Room started learning about Succos. They already know that we eat in a Succa that has schach (cut branches) on top and we shake the Lulav and Esrog which has four kinds: Lulav, Hadassim, Aravos and Esrog. They know that these all symbolize the way we daven to Hashem: Lulav – shaped like a spine: we bow to Hashem, Haddassim – leaves are shaped like eyes: we cry to Hashem to ask for what we want and need and look at the Alef Beis letters in our Siddur, Aravos – leaves are shaped like lips: we move our lips and say the words of davening to Hashem, and Esrog – shaped like a heart: we daven to Hashem with all our heart. They will learn how sitting in a Succa feels like a giant hug from Hashem who loves us all so much. Next week they will explore the spelling of the word Succa and see what it tells us about how to build the Succa.
